Rhode Island Fire Sprinkler Coalition

The Rhode Island Fire Sprinkler Coalition is dedicated to promoting the installation of sprinklers in future generations of homes. The coalition is a resource for education and information on home fire sprinklers and, through a cooperative effort with stakeholders, works to identify and overcome barriers to the acceptance of sprinklers as a critical component of home fire safety.  To join the coalition or for more information, contact NFPA's Fire Sprinkler Initiative

Event Marks Anniversary of The Station Nightclub Fire and Safety Measures Since Tragedy

Burn survivor Rob Feeney speaks at an event marking the 15th anniversary of The Station Nightclub fire

At the former site of The Station Nightclub, burn survivors (including Rob Feeney, pictured) and safety organizations commemorated the 15th anniversary of the event that claimed 100 lives and injured many others. Presenters, including coalition members, underscored life safety achievements since the tragedy, particularly significant tax incentives for sprinkler installations and retrofits found in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Watch 360-degree video of a live burn/fire sprinkler demonstration

During an event in East Greenwich that launched this coalition, the National Fire Protection Association filmed a live burn/fire sprinkler demonstration using a 360-degree camera. The video underscores how rapidly fire spreads in today's homes and how quickly home fire sprinklers, a requirement in all U.S. model building codes, can extinguish the flames.

For optimal viewing, access the video via the YouTube app on your phone and maneuver your device in different directions to see various aspects of the event. Or, open the video in Google Chrome, click and hold your mouse over the video, and move the mouse in different directions to see the audiences reaction to the burn and the fire department's response to the demos.
