August 31, 2022 -- The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) is teaming up with LEGOLAND® Florida Resort to host Heroes Weekend September 3-5 in Winter Haven, Florida. Each year, Heroes Weekend works to celebrate first responders who help keep their communities safe year-round. The event also promotes simple but potentially life-saving steps everyone can take to reduce their risk to home fire.
“Heroes Weekend presents a great way to team up with LEGOLAND to recognize first responders who truly are heroes and do so much to protect our communities,” said Andrea Vastis, senior director of the NFPA Public Education division. “As we celebrate firefighters, in particular, and all they do to keep us safe, we also want to reinforce ways that all of us can be heroes in our own homes, which includes taking simple but critical steps to reduce our risk to home fires.”
This year’s Heroes Weekend event will feature interactive activities and special events for families, including those that recognize Fire Prevention Week™, which will take place October 9-15. The theme, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape™,” focuses on the critical importance of home escape planning and practice, which helps ensure that people know what to do in the event of a home fire.
In support of Heroes Weekend, activities will include the following:
- Character appearances with LEGO® Policeman
- Action-packed LEGO® City 4D: Officer in Pursuit movie
- Help build a LEGO® City mosaic
- Giveaways and more
According to NFPA, today’s homes burn faster than ever. In a typical home fire, people may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape from the time the smoke alarm sounds. The ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.
Heroes Weekend offers fun, interactive opportunities learn life-saving fire safety tips, collect safety swag, and create your very own home escape plan. To learn more and to purchase tickets, visit the LEGOLAND Florida Resort website. Follow the fun by using #HeroesWeekendLLF.
