NFPA to host Spotlight on Public Education (SOPE) conference, a full-day program addressing today’s fire and life safety education challenges and opportunities

August 5, 2021 – On Tuesday, September 14, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is hosting its fifth annual Spotlight on Public Education (SOPE),a one-day program addressing some of the leading challenges and opportunities facing today’s fire departments and public safety educators working to mitigate fire and life safety risks in their communities. This year’s SOPE is part of the association’s virtual 125th Anniversary Conference Series, which replaces the traditional in-person 2021 NFPA Conference & Expo and runs from May 2021 through March 2022.

Representing the fourth monthly program in the year-long conference series, SOPE will focus on a wide range of issues and topics, including the critical importance of inclusiveness among multiple populations, demographics, and age groups; tips and tricks for implementing successful fire and life safety programs in today’s virtual and hybrid environments; and the reasoning behind this year’s Fire Prevention Week™ theme. A total of nine in-depth educational sessions will be hosted throughout the day, along with industry roundtable discussions, networking opportunities, live chat sessions, sponsor demonstrations, and more.

“SOPE presents a unique opportunity for attendees to hear new insights and approaches to the work they do in their communities, and to connect and learn from peers who have faced and overcome similar issues and obstacles,” said Andrea Vastis, senior director of the public education division at NFPA. “At the end of the day, we hope attendees walk away with new perspectives that empower them to more effectively deliver fire and life safety and injury prevention education to their communities.”

Attendees can tune in live to earn up to five credit hours (0.5 CEU) and earn an additional five credit hours on-demand for a total of 10 credit hours (1.0 CEU). Alternatively, the content can all be viewed on-demand for a total of 10 credit hours (1.0 CEU). All programs will be available on-demand for up to a year starting on September 14.
